THE DESIGNER

JOSÉPHINE BLACKETT
I didn't plan this. I arrived in Jaipur five months pregnant, a year out of stage four cancer, carrying too many ideas and not enough certainty — and I started making jewellery. Not as a business plan. As the only thing that made sense.
I had always loved jewels. Designed them in my head for years, written my thesis on Suzanne Belperron, argued that jewellery collecting was art collecting. But understanding something in your mind and understanding it in your hands are entirely different things. In Jaipur — one of the world's great centres of gemstone cutting and goldsmithing — I finally understood it properly.
I work with a small team of artisans I trust completely: Vishu, my goldsmith; Prasen, his brother, who sets stones with a precision that still surprises me; and Kapil, my business partner, who somehow holds the whole thing together. Every piece — bespoke commission or ready-to-wear — is handmade in 18-karat gold and finished by their hands. Gemstones come from the Johari Bazaar, sourced in person, chosen for what they carry.
This is Seuil N°1. A first collection made at a threshold — uncertain, alive, and entirely real.
